BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH CENTRAL CABOCHON AND PEARLS.
Ca. AD 600 - 800 A gold pendant in the form of a cross with drop-shaped arms, the centre set with an oval dark blue gem in a raised bezel. Each arm has a recessed panel with an incised vegetal motif and applied spiral wire securing a small pearl bead. A ribbed suspension loop rises from the apex and the reverse is plain. Size: 48mm x 33mm; Weight: 7.4g. Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with S.T. collection, Switzerland, 1980s-2000s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
