BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH CENTRAL CABOCHON.
Ca. AD 600 A gold cross pendant with slightly waisted tubular arms decorated with a grid of beaded bands and rows of fine granules, each arm terminating in a rounded boss. At the centre an oval amber-coloured cabochon is set in a high circular bezel supported by four rounded knops at the arm junctions. A narrow suspension loop is attached to the upper arm. Size: 36mm x 34mm; Weight: 6.8g. Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with S.T. collection, Switzerland, 1980s-2000s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
