BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH CENTRAL RED GARNET CABOCHON Ca. AD 500 - 700. A gold cross formed of tubular arms, each decorated with evenly spaced rows of applied granules. The arms terminate in plain caps with rounded finials. At the centre, a circular box setting holds a polished garnet cabochon. The suspension loop is soldered to the top of the upper arm and bears the same granulated decoration.
