BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD WEDDING RING WITH BRIDE AND GROOM AND OMONOIA INSCRIPTION.
Ca. AD 600 A gold wedding ring with a solid hoop broadening to an oval bezel engraved with the busts of a bride and groom flanking a tall cross. The couple are shown draped with their initials beside their heads, the half-length figure of Christ above within a circular nimbus, and the Greek legend OMONOI below. Size: D:17.12mm / US: 6 3/4 / UK: N; Weight: 9.68g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a late 1990s UK ancient art collection; formerly acquired from a London-based dealer in the 1980s..
