BYZANTINE SGRAFFITO WARE CUP WITH GEOMETRIC AND FLORAL MOTIF - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM.
Ca. AD 1300 - 1400 A sgraffito ware cup with a hemispherical bowl set on a spreading foot. The exterior is decorated below the rim with an encircling incised line above a series of long vertical strokes, with splashes of yellow and green glaze over a pale slip. The interior shows a central medallion enclosing a small oval motif framed by four opposed scrolls, the well accented by broad streaks of green and yellow glaze. Around the upper wall runs an inner border of zigzag between concentric lines. Size: 85mm x 109mm; Weight: 196g.
