BYZANTINE SGRAFFITO WARE FOOTED CUP WITH FLORAL DECORATION - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM. Ca. AD 1300 - 1400 A sgraffito ware footed cup with a broad flaring bowl rising from a short circular foot. The interior has a central rosette of radiating petals and a wide border of chevron motifs on the wall, with splashes of green and yellow glaze. The exterior upper section is decorated with a band of incised zigzag lines set over closely spaced horizontal grooves, all beneath a wash of green and yellow glaze. Size: 88mm x 138mm; Weight: 330g. Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923–2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew Discovered in Paphos This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. Formerly in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford.
