BYZANTINE SILVER-GILT MESOMPHALOS SHALLOW BOWL WITH COMPLEX ORNAMENT Ca. AD 1000 - 1200. A shallow silver bowl with parcel gilding. The interior features a raised central omphalos decorated with scrolling motifs and floral elements. Encircling the omphalos, alternating silver and gilded lobed panels contain engraved rosettes. Beyond this, a band of interlocking scrolls surrounds the composition, followed by an outermost band with a continuous pattern of curvilinear gilded segments interspersed with silver fields.
