BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA CIRCULAR MIRROR PLAQUE WITH CHI-RHO
Ca. AD 400 - 500. A terra sigillata mirror plaque with a rounded body. The central discus displays a relief depiction of a Chi-Rho, an early Christian symbol combining the Greek letters 'Χ' (Chi) and 'Ρ' (Rho), representing Christ. The perimeter is adorned with triangular leaves moulded. Size: 110mm x 100mm; Weight: 135g. Provenance: Property of a London gallery, acquired on the German art market; Ex. West German private collection HH, before 2010. This piece is accompanied by German export license.
