BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP WITH BISHOP Ca. AD 300 - 500. A red terracotta oil lamp with a sunken discus featuring a standing figure, possibly a bishop, with raised hands, an ornate pleated robe, and an elaborate headdress. The figure is flanked by two filling holes, and the discus is surrounded by circular and triangular-shaped decorative stamps. The nozzle has a rounded spout and a channelled design. The lug handle is present at the back of the lamp. The lamp sits on a ring base with concentric circles within. For similar see (type): The J. Paul Getty Museum, Inventory Number 83.AQ.377.274.
