Charles Hunsinger (1823-1893) was one of the great cabinet-makers of the second half of the 19th century, alongside Fourdinois, Beurdeley and Wassmus, whose work can be linked to the taste for historicism that characterised the period, such as the reconstruction of the Château de Chantilly by the Duc d'Aumale. Specialising in wood and ivory marquetry, Hunsinger is listed as "fabricant de meubles de luxe et de fantaisie" (Almanach du commerce, 1859). From late 1872 to 1883, he went into partnership with Wagner and won a silver medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition for "a marquetry bookcase".
