[CADET DE GASSICOURT (Charles-Louis). Cours gastronomique ou Les Dîners de Manant-Ville. An anecdotal, philosophical and literary work. Paris, Capelle et Renand, 1809. In-8, fawn half-basane, smooth spine decorated, black title page, marbled edges (Binding of the period). First edition of this very complete work, dedicated to the Société épicurienne du Caveau moderne. It is decorated with a beautiful fold-out gastronomic map of France, drawn and engraved by Tourcaty, the first of its kind. The names of the towns are illustrated with the famous culinary products made there.
The title bears the words "second edition", as several chapters had already been printed in the journal L'Épicurien français.
Charles-Louis Cadet de Gassicourt (1769-1821), son of the famous pharmacist of the same name and nephew of Cadet-de-Vaux, was a lawyer at the Parliament of Paris. "His book is one of the best anecdotal collections of the period" (Oberlé).
