In 1908, he was the first to reach the Hispar glacier, west of K2. Ex-libris Oscar Trona on title page and verso of frontispiece (wet stamps, name scratched on verso of frontispiece). A fine copy.
Mario Piacenza (Pollone 1884 - Biella 1957) was an Italian mountaineer and explorer. He was one of the pioneers of mountain cinema, with films of ascents of the Matterhorn and the Giant's Tooth dating from 1911. During his 1913 expedition to the Himalayas, he reached the Kun summit of Nun-Kun (7,095 m).
An important work on the Himalayas, which is not very common.
