With its cubic wooden base. H. head: 22 cm - H. with base: 33 cm. Note: This head may have been produced as part of the École des Arts Cambodgiens, founded in Phnom Penh in 1917 by Georges Groslier, to encourage a revival of Cambodia's artistic traditions. Students at the school trained by copying ancient works. Provenance: Senior military official of the colonial administration in Indochina from 1937 to 1944, and by descent.
