Very rare pamphlet relating a journey undertaken by Maxime Du Camp to the Great St Bernard. The author, a friend of Flaubert, describes without complacency the mountaineers and the road leading to the Hospice. Maxime du Camp (Paris 1822 - Baden Baden 1899) was a French writer, contemporary and friend of Gustave Flaubert, Charles Beaudelaire and Théophile Gauthier. He was a member of the Académie Française. A keen traveller, he was also an excellent photographer, trained by Gustave Le Gray. Perret, 1409
