CAMPANIAN RED-FIGURE HYDRIA WITH YOUNG DIONYSUS. Ca. 350 - 300 BC A red-figure terracotta hydria with a globular body on a flared foot, a tall cylindrical neck, and a broad mouth with a hanging rim, with two horizontal side handles and a vertical strap handle at the back. The main panel shows a youthful Dionysus seated in profile, with long hair bound by a fillet, holding a ribbon in his right hand and a wreath in his left, with two tympana in the field. The reverse is decorated with a large fan-shaped palmette. Upright tongues ornament the neck, a wave pattern runs around the rim, and a laurel wreath band encircles the shoulder. Size: 275mm x 150mm; Weight: 955g. Private London collection; previously acquired on the Belgium art market; originally in the collection of D Bogaerts, Brussels 1990’s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
