CAMUS (Albert) S. l.,, s. d.. Autograph letter signed on René Char. 1 p. in-4 (27 x 20.7 cm) on letterhead Cafés & Poivres, Jean Moustrou. Autograph letter signed by Camus praising his friend René Char. The writer is saddened not to have seen his correspondent. "I am very sorry not to have been able to meet you in Paris. All the more sad because your previous letter, which I read, reread and kept, had interested me a great deal. I would have liked to discuss it with you. At the latter's request, he recommended a few books. "What should I read? I'm not sure. Have you read Les Feuillets d'Hypnos by René Char? He's our greatest poet. Also read Noël Devaulx's Auberge Parpillon (Gallimard) and Le Pressoir Mystique (Cahiers du Rhône). It's first-rate. Camus and Char, who enjoyed a deep friendship, would reproach each other in the post-war period. Sharing common ideas, the two men wrote two works with similar opinions a few years apart, L'Homme révolté by Camus published in 1951 and Feuillets d'Hypnos by Char published in 1946, which was dedicated to Albert Camus. A charming letter from Camus praising René Char, "our greatest poet". Slight creases, tiny marginal tear with loss.
