A Louis XV carved beechwood sofa, attributed to Jean-Baptiste I Tilliard A sofa virtually identical to ours, stamped by Jean-Baptiste Tilliard, sold at Christie's London on 23 June 1999, lot 69 (see fig. 1). This sofa was characterised by the extreme finesse of its carved motifs, combining hearts inscribed in a cartouche flanked by foliage and strikingly naturalistic floral scrolls, such as those on our example.
