CANOSAN TERRACOTTA RED ON WHITE OINOCHOE. Ca. 300 - 200 BC. A terracotta oinochoe with an inverted piriform body, a narrow neck, and a wide trefoil mouth. A tall, curved handle rises from the shoulder, arching above the rim and reattaching at the lip. The body is decorated in red pigment over a white slip, with horizontal bands of linear elements and a frieze of laurel leaves. The base is flat with a slightly stepped profile. A similar example sold for USD 1,920 at Christie's, Live Auction 1584, Antiquities, 9 December 2005, Lot 286.
