Carl Kauba, born in Vienna on 13 August 1865, is known for his animal sculptures and bronzes depicting scenes from the American Wild West, although he never visited America. Inspired by the romantic stories of Karl May and the many illustrations of cowboys and Indians, Kauba worked closely with Franz Bergman's foundry in Vienna.
