In accordance with his family's wishes, he initially attended the Handelsakademie (Commercial Academy) in Dresden and, at the urging of Franz Defregger, also enrolled at the Munich Art Academy. While studying, he remained employed in his parents' business in Bolzano until 1896. After completing his studies, he travelled to Germany, Italy, Corsica, and France. In 1901, he enrolled at the Académie Julian in Paris. He spent the summer months in Brittany and Normandy. Through the Viennese painter Max Kurzweil, Moser learnt about Japanese woodcut techniques, which he devoted himself to from then on, perfecting to perfection. In 1907, Moser returned to Bolzano, received scholarships in the following years and participated in numerous exhibitions. In 1915, he was drafted into military service. In the 1920s, the artist enjoyed great commercial success. He made a name for himself in his native South Tyrol, but demand for his colour woodcuts also grew in Germany.
