After an initial training in Brandimarte's workshop, Carlo Pennacchietti attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome and later the Accademia in Florence, where he was a pupil of Giovanni Fattori. He frescoed the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore in Bologna, next to the Conservatorio di Musica, and the railway station in Rimini. As a portrait painter, he depicted members of the Savoy royal family and the political and bourgeois world of the capital. The canvas under examination depicts a young maiden languidly abandoned on an armchair, having just returned from a carnival party. Every detail of the room is described with extraordinary accuracy and abundance of detail, showing an excellent pictorial quality.
