CARRÉ DE MONTGERON (Louis Basile). La Vérité des miracles opérés par l'intercession de M. de Paris, démontrée contre M. l'Archevêque de Sens. Utrecht, 1737, Cologne, 1747. 3 vol. in-4, brown half calf with corners, smooth spines with red and blue title-pieces, gilt borders, yellow edges (Early 19th century binding). First edition of the first volume. The other two are from the second edition published in Cologne.
A famous collection of essays and descriptions of miracles, each with a separate pagination. Montgeron was an ardent defender of the convulsionaries who indulged in ecstasies at the tomb of the deacon Paris in the cemetery of Saint Médard. He was locked up in the Bastille an hour after this work appeared: "It is the most important and most curious work to consult on the Convulsionnaires" (Caillet, 2039).
