CARTEL AU PUTTO BY MEURON ET CIE, LOUIS XVI PERIOD, 18th CENTURY Rectangular, in gilt bronze, by François Vion, the circular dial in white and black enamel with Arabic numerals for the hours and minutes, set in a terminal surmounted by Apollo the putto child on a cloud with a garland of falling leaves. The back plate is signed and numbered 1261. Movement, Swiss, striking the hours and half hours on a gong. At the bottom, two foliate scrolls face each other from which a foliate pinecone emerges. (Some pitting and wear, minor accidents and wear, elements missing from the putto's hands). A CARTEL CLOCK WITH PUTTO BY MEURON AND CIE, LOUIS XVI PERIOD, 18th CENTURY 38 x 21 x 8,50 CM - 15 x 8,3 x 3,3 in. Meuron & Compagnie was founded by Guglielmo Meuron in the last years of the 18th century. This Italian craftsman began his career in Paris, where he worked in particular with Abraham-Louis Breguet, for whom he made a number of alarm watches (see Tardy, Dictionnaire des horlogers français, Paris, 1971, p. 460).
