CARTIER - YEAR 1906 MECHANICAL PENCIL WITH "LISEUSE" SYSTEM The pencil is in the shape of a navette in "Empire green" enamel with a guilloché background. White enamelled dot border. The push-button is adorned with a rose-cut diamond. 18K yellow gold setting. French work, numbered 811 on the rim and on the retractable mechanical pencil. Engraved VS. Unsigned. A PRECIOUS OBJECT WITH MANY USES This mechanical pencil can also be used as a small letter opener and a bookmark. To add to all these refinements, Cartier produced a few examples in shimmering pink, grey-blue and empire green. This particular colour scheme underlines the commercial and artistic struggle between Fabergé and Cartier, both suppliers to the European courts. The second model to appear at public auction. A similar model in pink enamel belonged to the Rotschild family and was numbered 817. A model that went on sale in the United Kingdom.
