This is a unique and historic pocketwatch made by Cartier in Paris around 1910-1911. This extra fine watch is made of platinum, blue-grey enamel, and features a princely Indian monogram set with diamonds on the reverse. This historic object was a gift from the British royal family to the Maharajah of Baroda, ruler of one of the many dynasties of Indian princes who belonged to the British Empire from 1858 to 1947. In order to maintain cordial and pacifist relations, the British Crown regularly offered sumptuous gifts to the princely families of India.
