Following the evolution of style from the Belle Epoque to Art Deco, these accessories were no longer decorated with guilloché enamel but with champlevé enamel with geometric motifs. The ring was used to place the pencil on a chain around the neck, for men or women, to use when running errands, or at the end of a watch holder or watch chain with a jacket case, cigar cutter or penknife. The seal function was an additional "gadget" at a time when many people still sealed letters with melted wax.
