Fitted with a caliber 78X, mechanical, manual winding, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, self-compensating flat balance spring, monometallic balance, shock absorbers, gold case back secured to the main case by four screws in the band, mineral glass, cabochon-set crown. The present Santos Dumont is an early model signed Cartier Paris. This Cartier Santos is a classic timepiece that represents one of the iconic designs dating back to 1904. This particular example dates to the late 1970s. The model has a three-body construction, the gold bezel is secured to the main case with inside screws, while the plain gold case back is snap to the main case and also secured with screws in the band. 1970s models come with this particular cabochon-set gold octogonal crown. Trained eyes will notice that the original dial does not bear the Cartier secret’s signature, that was introduced later, and is signed Cartier Paris.
