CARVED AND PAINTED CONSOLE “LE RENARD ET LA CIGOGNE”
Transition, Paris ca. 1770.
Wood carved with flowers, scrolls, acanthus leaves, and garlands, and painted gray/blue. “Brèche d'Alep” marble top with shaped edge on a cut-out frame and scroll legs connected by a flat stretcher. The stretcher features a stork with a fox, based on Lafontaine's fable.
126 × 47 × 87 cm.
Minor losses, paintwork retouched. Front frame repaired on the inside.
