National Guard helmet on horseback model 1816. Leather shell. Crest decorated with gadroons and foliage, plume-holder, radiating bosses, with fleur-de-lys boss pattern, chinstrap with false scales lined with brown velvet, headband decorated with palms, fleur-de-lys pattern under royal crown and silvered copper piping. Black horsehair chenille. Remainder of leather and unbleached cloth headdress. Presented with a mismatched scarlet plume. Fairly good condition (the front chenille clip and a fleur-de-lys from a boss are missing). Restoration period. Provenance: Collection of Mr F. EXPERT: Arnaud DE GOUVION SAINT-CYR.
