The Pseudo-Corinthian helmet was developed in Italy during the 6th-early 4th Centuries B.C., using the Corinthian helmet as a model. With a more decorative purpose, the Italian type was worn on top of the head, like a cap, making the functional characteristics of the eye holes and nose guard purely decorative as the eye-holes later become smaller and closer together and the separation of the cheek guards disappears. The above helmet would be considered a Type B helmet as there is a small bridge connecting the cheek pieces. For a similar helmet see the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 2003.407.4.
