Lined in yellow silk fabric with tan basane sweatband. Label of the manufacturer Franz Deiner on 5th Avenue in New York. Handwritten name R.M. Small Co I 308th Inf. corresponding to 2nd Lieutenant Richard M. Small, a native of Braintree, Massachusetts, well enrolled in Company I of the 308th Infantry, 77th Division, for the duration of the conflict, embarking for France in April 1918, and returning in April 1919 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Wear from use, nice AEF headdress having really participated in the war. U.S. Officer's Cap, 2nd Lieutenant R.M. Small, Company I, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, WWI Officer's cap, Model 1910, in khaki gabardine with beige band, light brown leather visor and adjustable chinstrap. Lined in yellow silk with a tan leather sweatband. Maker's label, Franz Deiner, 5th Avenue, New York. Handwritten name "R.M. Small Co I 308th Inf.," corresponding to 2nd Lieutenant Richard M. Small of Braintree, Massachusetts, recorded as serving in Company I of the 308th Infantry, 77th Division, throughout the war-departed for France in April 1918, returned in April 1919 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Signs of wear, fine AEF cap with authentic wartime service.
