First edition of two treatises on the organs of voice and hearing by Julius Caesar Casserio (Piacenza 1552 - Padua 1616). In addition to an exact description of the larynx, the first treatise contains details of the bronchotomy operation. The second treatise compares the organs of hearing in adult man, the human foetus and several animals. Spectacular engraved title with a large animated frame of human skeletons, some winged, bird and reptile skeletons, 2 superb portraits with animated frames. The large anatomical plates were executed by the German painter and engraver Joseph Maurer. Ex-libris Dr Maurice Villaret. Library stamps on the first and last pages. The pages bearing plates 6, 7 and 8 of the first part are missing. Light spotting on several quires, the last page (colophon) partly lined on verso. Binding worn, covers and corners damaged.
