Lot no. 295
CATTAUI Georges (1896-1974). Charles de Gaulle (Éditions Universitaires, 1956); in-8 leaves (8 quires). Proofs corrected by de Gaulle. There are around 75 corrections or annotations in the General's hand, mostly in ink, consisting mainly of errors and inaccuracies ("non", "faux", "Sometimes he contests, for example on the subject of his wound at Douaumont attributed to shrapnel: "non d'un coup de baïonnette" (p. 20), or on the subject of French sovereignty (p. 79): "non! c'était ma politique" (no! that was my policy); he also corrects a few spelling mistakes, and rectifies surnames and dates. The General does not seem to have appreciated this reading very much. He attached an autograph list, noting the page numbers with corrections. A P. A. S. from General de Gaulle, 13 September 1954 (1 page in-8 on his letterhead). Note for Commandant de Bonneval: "I replied to M. G. Cattaui, telling him about his book on Léon Bloy that Beaulaincourt got for me. I did not get the copy he sent me. Please present him with this one for him to sign, if he is willing. C.G."
