Lot no. 31
CAZE Robert (1853-1886). Les Mots. Paris, 1886; in-24, bradel paper-covered boards in pink crinkled paper in relief, fleuron on the spine, cover (Patrice Goy). An extremely rare first edition, printed on handmade paper in an edition of 45 copies. The fiery poet, who died at the age of thirty-three in a literary duel just after publication, warned: "This booklet, which was not put on the odious market, was intended for forty-five kind men of letters". According to Darzens in his Anthologie des poètes français du XIXe siècle, "There is no doubt that those interested in literature will devoutly seek out the extremely rare volumes that make up his poetic work and place them alongside those of the best poets of his generation".
