Only 45 copies of this first edition were printed. The author had a great future ahead of him if he had survived a duel with Charles Vignier, who had offended him in the press. Unpublished autograph poem added "les Tuileries". Autograph letter signed: "Exemplaire numéro deux, réservé à J.K. des Esseintes [Huysmans] par Gendrevin". Jean des Esseintes is the aesthete and decadent hero of Huysmans' novel À Rebours. 7 leaves of the autograph manuscript have been bound into the larger volume.
