CAZOTTE (Jacques). Le Diable amoureux. Paris, Léon Ganivet, 1845. In-8, havana half-maroquin with corners, spine decorated, gilt head, untrimmed, cover (V. Champs). An important romantic edition of Cazotte's fantasy novel, preceded by a long introduction by Gérard de Nerval in the original edition. According to Pierre Gusman, this is one of the most interesting illustrated books of the Romantic period.
First edition of the beautiful illustrations by Édouard de Beaumont, including a steel-engraved portrait, 200 vignettes in the text and 6 plates outside the text reproducing the unusual figures from the original edition.
