It includes 15 pen-and-ink compositions, 14 of which are reproduced full-page, and a vignette in red on the cover. Céline had quickly conceived the project of publishing an illustrated edition of Le Voyage, initially envisaging the collaboration of the painter Henri Mahé, before entrusting the task to Gen Paul. But this edition was delayed for a long time: announced prematurely in March 1935 as featuring lithographs by Gen Paul, it was not published until March 1942 with reproduced drawings. One of 42 first copies on Arches vellum (no. 2). The illustrations were coloured by Gen Paul in watercolour and gouache highlights. Copy signed by Céline on the false title, with this autograph letter signed by Gen Paul: au Dr Borel, en toute sympathie, followed by the note: Cet exemplaire a été colorié de ma main, dated July 1942. A fine paperback copy, with an original pen-and-ink drawing by Gen Paul (26.8 x 20.8 cm), signed lower right; this is the illustration reproduced on the cover of the book, depicting a horse-drawn carriage. Handwritten in the upper left-hand corner: B3BF. Discreet cracks to the lower jaws of the cover; small very light stain on the first cover.
