Signed C Mariani bottom right
Oil on canvas, 31.5 x 48.5 cm
Provenance:
Milan, private collection
Cesare Mariani spent some time in Olevano Romano, a village in Lazio known for having hosted numerous artists in the 19th century, attracted by its beautiful landscape and evocative light. During his stay, Mariani produced several paintings, immersing himself in the atmosphere of the village: the canvas under examination is a clear example. Originally from Rome, he was a pupil of Tommaso Minardi and established himself as a decorator of churches and palaces, working both in Italy and abroad. Among his most important works are the frescoes for the Basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura in Rome and several decorations for the Vatican.
