In folio of [14]-323 ill chiff. 349-1bl.-[5] pages, (Numr. pagination errors) granulated calf, gilt arms of the city of Lyon in the centre of the boards, spine decorated, (contemporary binding). RARE ORIGINAL EDITION of this famous relation, written with great charm and pleasure; it is illustrated with an engraved title, a portrait of Chardin and 16 REMARKABLE ENGRAVED PLANCHES, almost all folding. The latter consist of a large map of the Black Sea, 6 plates showing the towns of Teflis, Irivan, Tauris, Sultania, Kom and Kashan, and 9 others detailing either the author's reception feast in Teflis, the caravanserai in Kashan or the ancient tombs and burial places of the ancient kings. This journey, undertaken between 1671 and 1673 from Paris to Isfahan, is of great importance for the history of Persia and Armenia. Ex-libris Froissart. Repairs to several plates, the plate of Téflis missing, yellow stains, missing in the margin of the portrait, the last leaf of the text cut without missing text, hinges skilfully restored (Chadenat, 546) (Brunet I, 1802) (Weber II, 377).
