Charles-Henry CONTENCIN (1898-1955), Aiguille du Midi Oil on canvas Signed lower right, titled on the back 47 x 61 cm Contencin painted a great many canvases depicting mountain and high mountain landscapes of the great Alpine massifs, principally the Mont Blanc massif and the Écrins massif. Contencin exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes français; his entries include "Matinée au lac blanc" in 1932 and "Col des Montets et Aiguille verte" in 1935. He also exhibited at the Salon des indépendants from 1927 to 1938, notably paintings depicting landscapes of Haute-Savoie and the Midi, at the Salon de l'école française in 1932: "Neige à Chamonix et Argentière" and at the Salon d'hiver from 1945 to 1950.
