An artist of the Belgian school of the second half of the 19th century, he was a pupil of his father Charles and then, at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Brussels, of Joseph Stevens, an animal painter. He later studied at the Académie de Louvain. He was a member of "L'Essor", a group of young artists who rebelled against academic conservatism. He received an honourable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1895. His works are in the museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ixelles and Courtrai. He also painted several pictures for Queen Marie-Henriette of Belgium.
