CHARLES LE ROY, GILT BRONZE GRANDFATHER CLOCK, FRANCE CIRCA 1750 An exceptional support clock with a rich architectural structure taken directly from classical repertoires. Supported by a mixtilinear base, resting on knurled bulbous feet, the ancona concealing the machine is revealed in its wealth of plant ornaments, rudimentary foliage and volutes. Ruled by an imaginary entablature, a luxuriant festoon descends to embrace the sumptuous dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals in 5 o'clock for the minutes, signed Charles Le Roy in Paris, asymmetrical holes, large movement signed Charles Le Roy in Paris, with anchor escapement (original) wire suspension, hour and half-hour strike on large bell, pendulum and key present.
