The Franco-British free trade treaty of 23 January 1860 - known as the "Cobden-Chevalier treaty" because it was secretly negotiated by Richard Cobden on the British side and Michel Chevalier on the French side - was one of the high points of the Saint-Simonian programme. Copy on wove paper bound with the arms of Napoleon III. Joints cracked, minor rubbing to headpieces and corners. The printed cover has not been preserved by the bookbinder.
