Lot no. 92
CHIEN DE PIQUE (The Spade Dog). 17 issues in three fascicules. Paris, P.Q.G., 1928-1931. 3 fascicules, folio, illustrated cover. A very rare magazine which published 18 issues between May 1927 and April 1931, the purpose of which is defined by the publishers in the first issue: "Thanks to Le Chien de Pique, a periodical anthology has been created where, each month, subscribers will find an unpublished work by one of the most representative artists of our time... Wishing to pay tribute to all glories, Le Chien de Pique will publish, in each issue, a few unpublished pages (verse or prose) by our most justly famous writers". Each issue consists of a previously unpublished literary text and an original signed print, in a flap cover illustrated with a dog by Guy Arnoux. The illustrations include 16 (out of 18) original signed etchings and lithographs by Galanis, Dignimont, Othon Friesz, Goerg, Marie Laurencin, Foujita, André Lhote, Max Jacob, Despiau, Chas Laborde, Launois, Gus Bofa, Édy-Legrand, Laboureur, Yves Alix and Hermine David. The texts are by Maurice du Plessys, Lucie Delarue-Mardrus, Pierre Mac Orlan, André Salmon, Jean Giono and others. Each plate is hand-numbered in pencil, signed by the artist and bears the Chien de Pique cold stamp. Limited edition of 150 copies. Missing the first issue of May 1927 and the original print of the February 1928 issue. Covers slightly faded with tears, scattered foxing.
