CHINA, CANTON, LATE 19th CENTURY Pair of baluster vases in porcelain and famille rose enamels, decorated with family scenes in two large cartouches on a white background decorated with floral and auspicious motifs, blue enamelled chilong in relief evolving on the shoulder; the necks enhanced by two gilded handles depicting cranes. The bases encircled by two Empire-style bronze pedestals. H. vase with view: 29.5 cm - H. total: 38 cm. (The heads of the two cranes forming the handles of one vase are missing; the bases are pierced). Provenance: Senior military official of the colonial administration in Indochina from 1937 to 1944, and by descent. Expert : Cabinet Ansas, Papillon et de Léry.
