CHINA, END OF THE 19th CENTURY
Two volumes of the Xiqing Gujian, "Catalogue of Xiqing Antiquities", vol. 9 and vol. 10, an illustrated catalogue listing, in forty volumes, the 1529 bronze objects from the Shang to the Tang in the Qing imperial collections, compiled at the request of the Qianlong emperor, under the supervision of Liang Shizheng (1697-1763) and completed in 1751. Each entry illustrates the object, describes it and discusses its inscription.
Note: Xiqing, "Purity of the West" is one of the names of the southern library of the imperial palace.
These are probably two of the fascicles in the 1888 republication of the work by the Shuguang house based on Japanese plates.
