CHINA, FIRST HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY A four-tiered circular porcelain dish for dishes or hors d'oeuvres, with polychrome decoration of floral and stylised medallions on different coloured backgrounds, each with two twisted metal handles held by loops. H. 18.5 x D. 17.5 cm. (The lower level is missing, small chips on one level) Note: this type of porcelain is typical of so-called Peranakan production, the term used to describe the Malaysian-Singapore-Indonesian Chinese, or Straits Chinese, descendants of Chinese immigrants who arrived in Southeast Asia between the 14th and 17th centuries.
