CHINA, 19th century. Dress in beige silk, woven with gold and polychrome threads (kesi) of eight five-clawed dragons, and one four-clawed dragon in the inner flap, depicted in front or in profile chasing sacred pearls, surrounded by flowers, fruit, cranes, stylised clouds, bats and auspicious symbols, above a band of lishui and sacred peaks. The borders of the sleeves and collar are decorated with a woven design (kesi) of dragons and bats surrounded by clouds on a beige background. Light blue silk lining (tears and wear).
