CHINESE TANG DYNASTY PAINTED POTTERY FIGURE OF A KOWTOWING COURTIER - TL TESTED Ca. AD 618 - 907. A terracotta figure of a male courtier kneeling in a position of deference, on an integral square base. The head is lifted slightly above the arms, which are hidden beneath voluminous robes pressed close to the ground. Facial features are carefully rendered, with a concentrated expression beneath a tall, peaked hat. Locks of hair extend from beneath the headgear. The wide-sleeved robe flows around the body in broad, incised folds, cinched at the waist with a belt that falls in a tied loop at the back. Traces of red and cream pigment remain on the surface.
