CHINESE TANG DYNASTY TERRACOTTA KNEELING CAMEL - TL TESTED Ca. AD 618 – 907. A Chinese terracotta kneeling camel. A beautifully modeled bactrian figure in dynamic pose, where the camel is balancing itself on its front legs. It is a popular depiction of the period, reflecting the practice of camels transporting goods suchs as bolts of silk and metalware vessels along the Silk Road, as can be seen here. The camel is modeled with greatly textured face, saddle and goods. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla.
